Fri 17th Feb 2023 - Costa Coffee appoints new CEO
Costa Coffee appoints new CEO: Costa Coffee, owned by Coca-Cola, has appointed Philippe Schaillee as its new chief executive. Schaillee, who takes up the role from Monday, 10 April, arrives from Groupe SEB, where he has served as executive vice-president in charge of products and innovation since April 2021. “Philippe is an outstanding leader who comes to Costa with a deep background in business and a passion for building great brands,” said Evguenia Stoichkova, president of global ventures for Coca-Cola. “We look forward to working with Philippe to expand on the plans we have developed to grow Costa, both in its home country of England and beyond.” Schaillee began his career with the Sara Lee Group in Belgium in 1994, where he held various marketing roles. In 2000, he moved to the United States, where he was executive vice-president of marketing for the coffee and tea businesses. He later became executive vice-president of the beverages division. In 2006, he was named executive vice-president of the breakfast, snacking and beverages division. In 2008, he was appointed senior vice-president, chief marketing officer and executive committee member for all of the Sara Lee Group’s categories in the United States. In 2012, Schaillee returned to Europe, where he joined Jacob Douwe Egberts Group. He was named president of the professional coffee division and served as a member of their executive committee. Most recently, he has been a member of the executive committee at France-based Groupe SEB, which is a global market leader in cookware, small domestic appliances and professional coffee equipment, with brands that include WMF, Schaerer, All-Clad, Krups, Tefal and Rowenta. “I have long admired Costa and appreciate the company’s deep history and heritage,” Schaillee said. “I am excited to join the great team at Costa and look forward to learning and growing the business with them.” Schaillee succeeds Jill McDonald, who left in July last year to become the president of McDonald’s international operated markets segment, which includes the UK. Schaillee will report to Stoichkova and be based in London. Mayuri Vachhani to step down as Tasty CFO: Mayuri Vachhani will next month step down as chief financial officer of Wildwood operator Tasty. She will leave the company on Friday, 31 March to pursue other opportunities. Ian Davies has been appointed as her replacement (initially a non-board appointment), with effect from Monday (20 February). Davies is a chartered accountant and has more than 18 years of experience within the hospitality industry, most recently as chief financial officer for the international private membership club business hClub. He played a lead role in the start-up and growth of the London operation, along with the opening of hClub Los Angeles in 2019, including the establishment of its full finance function. Tasty said Vachhani will ensure the completion of the audit for the 52 weeks to 25 December 2022 and a comprehensive handover to Davies. She joined Tasty in 2018 and has helped steer the company through recent challenges, including the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis, and has strengthened the finance function. Jonny Plant, Tasty’s chief executive, said: “Mayuri has worked tirelessly to ensure the success of Tasty, showing huge dedication and commitment, and she will be missed by her team, the board and everyone in the company. The board wish her well in her future endeavours.”
